#Morgana’s sister-sense was tingling #she was all worried but then she got the low down tingly feels and knew sister was close #magic sex is the best sex!
*points at that*
So true. Also, this is how I felt during the scene too.

Perfection!
Nothing against Arthur and Gwen, but this is my Once and Future Power Couple.

#this still makes me really angry so have a tag rant #damnit Merlin do you know WHY she put that spell on Morgana to make everyone fall asleep? #remembering this woman has marched right into the throne room before with no trouble what so fucking ever? #SO NO ONE BUT HER TARGET (Uther) WOULD DIE #to SAVE LIVES #and she only wants him dead because he committed GENOCIDE #you are not a hero Merlin you are just an idiot get out of the way and leave Morgana alone #everything Morgana did following this moment was YOUR fault #putting Arthur’s feelings before the lives of the magical community is not heroic #it is selfish and kind of aweful
Perfect tags are fucking perfect. This is why I will never have any respect or sympathy for Merlin. This is also exactly why Morgause’s characterization in season three makes no sense. She never wanted to kill Arthur or see innocent people murdered. She wanted Uther dead and Morgana safe. That was all. Quite frankly, I think the only reason the writers demonized her (and Morgana) to such a degree later in the series was to provide some sort of hindsight justification for Merlin’s actions here.
All of the above it perfect. Merlin is no hero. He’s a silly little boy who doesn’t deserve all the honour and people giving their alliegence. If they really knew what he had done to their kin over the past years there would be a large price to pay and I hope to God it happens.
I think my simple conclusion on Merlin him is, like Morgana, he does the wrong thing for the right reason (as far as he’s concerned). Unlike Morgana, the show is desperate to insist that whatever he does is always the right thing, no matter how sketchy. Because for some reason that can’t actually contemplate or bear the complexity of exploring the fact he might have got it wrong. Which would make this a better show but alas…

KATIE MCGRATH: “This has very interesting undertones, this scene. [laughs] They’re being very silent, but smirking, if you could see them right now, they totally know what I’m saying.”
COLIN MORGAN: “Not suitable for a DVD commentary, I would say.”
KATIE MCGRATH: “Nothing I say ever is.”

30 days of Merlin
Day 3 - Favorite Episode
2.12 - The Fires of Idirsholas
When the Fires of Idirsholas burn for the first time in 300 years, Gaius fears it heralds the return of the Knights of Medhir. Morgause has returned, hell-bent on ending Uthur’s reign. Arthur and Merlin ride out to confront the Knights but barely escape with their lives. But when they return to Camelot, they find out that everyone except for Morgana is under a strange enchantment. Is she behind this new magical threat? As Morgause and the Knights attack a helpless kingdom, Merlin finds his loyalties stretched to the limit.
I have such love for this episode and how it showed the true feelings that Morgause had for her sister - she gave up everything, all the plans, to save her and they’d barelye even met.
But Merlin…this will remain his biggest mistake and he deserves a lot of shit for it. He poisoned her, the coward’s way of killing - he could have just as easily have stabbed her but no… He gave her hemlock so she had the horrific sensation of her own body paralysing, of being able to feel her lungs stop working whilst she is fully aware of what is going on. That is completely horrific.
Is it anyone surprised that she hates all of Camelot and can trust no one, even Gwen and Arthur? If Merlin turned on her, why shouldn’t they? I see her as deeply traumatised by this event and it explains a lot of what comes later.
Simply, someone claiming to be a friend in Camelot tried to murder her in a horrible way and in Camelot’s people are told that those with magic are monsters and should be killed. Morgause saved her and accepts and encourages what she is. I can see absolutely why she turns her back on Camelot; as far as she’s concerned it’s already turned its back on her. It wants her dead.
